Bad scars in cosmetic surgery

Sunday 24th January 2016

Bad scars are unfortunately one of the risks of cosmetic surgery (and all surgery).

Most of the time, it is fair to say, that both my patients and I are actually happy with the way the scars turn out. Scars will always go through a stage of being thickened and red and tight, but they do settle. Generally it may take up to 18 months. Often the niggles early on after surgery are as a result of the scaring, and these settle soften and sort themselves out.

There are also improvements in the way we look after scars. I got this message from a patient today "brown micropore tape used on keloid breast scars for 12mths and very very happy! scars now 90% improved and flat".
