Silicone therapy for scar hypertrophy
Friday 29th April 2016
Good morning Dr Davison, Lovely to see you last Saturday.
I wonder if you can help? Someone has recommended Dermatix for the area around my belly button. It's supposed to help the lumpy scar?
Hi Sam
I suspect that your belly button scarring will settle by itself. However - you can try silicone.
I'd suggest that the silicone sheet option is better than the gel (in a tube). Dermatrix is one brand but they are all exactly the same product in my opinion.
If you use the sheet - keep it on as much as possible. You can wash and re-use it. Some people need to stick it on with tape, others it just sticks on their skin.

Give it a go - but continue for 3 months.
